Top 10 Igbo Rising Stars In 2016

The year 2015 has had its ups and downs, but one thing positive is that many talented Igbo youngsters came through the ranks to showcase their talents.
Obindigbo.com.ng brings you 10 Igbo artistes that really outdid themselves in 2015 and are ready to stun the entertainment industry in 2016.

10. Charass
Victor Chinedu Onyewuchi, stage name Charass came to limelight with his hit song “Coco Butter” in 2013. With the song gaining maximum airplay, Charass popularity soared after he got a call and a tweet from Davido who demanded to jump on his track for a remix. Some few days after, a remix to the song featuring Davido and Phyno is released by his record label in 2014.
Charass is signed to Chelsea star Mikel Obi’s record label, Matured Money Minds Record.

9. Bosalin
Nigeria got some good rappers and Bosalin Onye Utali aka BosaLin or Utalinator is no doubt in that class.
Signed to Signature Entertainment, the Anambra state born rapper has taken a firm stance in what he does by stating clearly that music needs rappers to sustain it than singers of today in Nigeria music industry.
After close to two years hiatus, Bosalin returned to music and has recently released a new tune ‘Pass Out’, which is gaining airwaves.

8. Ugovina
25-year-old Nwaokobia Ugochukwu was one of the contestants of the MTN Project Fame 7.0 competition. Although he was not listed among the top winners, Ugovinna as he is fondly called, has sure had a fair share of his musical career as a professional guitarist and a former back-up singer for some top Nigerian artistes with the likes of Ego, Djinee and MI amongst others.
The Delta State born artiste began his musical career with the release of his first single ‘Walankolombo’ featuring Ice-prince.

7. Ransome
Enugu state star born-music artiste Ransome, rose to stardom with his hit track ‘Local Boy’ which featured Indigenous Rapper, Phyno.
The fast rising singer, real name Ekwereonu Ransome Iheanyi popularity soared with his video, ‘Local Boy’ and ‘Ijim N’Oru,’ gaining massive airplay across various media stations which led to his nomination at last year’s Nigeria Music Video Awards(NMVA).

6. Selebobo
Real name Oku Udoka Chidozie, popularly known as Selebobo is a Nigerian artiste and producer.
He came into limelight in 2013 after producing many hit songs for big Nigerian artistes.
He has since then produced more hits after that. He co-wrote the Johnny song with Yemi Alade in 2013, As at 2015 he is signed to Iyanya’s record label TrippleMG.
Selebobo already has a number of singles to his name like “Lose Control”, “Odeshi” featuring Flavour, “No Letting Go” featuring Uganda’s Keko, “Kulenje” featuring Stormrex.
Selebobo receives a copious amount of praise for his all his songs. His official singles “Oroma Baby”, “ZaminA” and “YOYO” the remix featuring J.Martins are already massive hits, with the video for “YOYO”.

5. Zoro Swagbag
Owoh Chimaobi Chrismathner aka Zoro SwagBag was born on the 20th of March 1990. He hails from Awgu in Enugu state. Without saying much, tracing back to the music archives he’s the rapper on the massive hits Owu sa gi, Safe journey and more recently.
He dropped a resounding joint that instantly became the Enugu state anthem: 042, followed by other unique singles like, OTU state of Mind and Usain Bolt.
Zoro is not just good but he actually eats rap music with Igbo Language.

4. Splash
Genevieve Ogbuewu a.k.a Splash is a young rapper from Ebonyi State, who – despite holding a degree in English Language from Ebonyi State University – has enormously represented the Igbo race via her music.
The young rapper began her music hustle when she relocated to Lagos a few years ago and worked with top music labels.
Splash made a huge “splash” literally when she dropped her single, “Church Agbasa”. Suddenly there was a female that could flow very well in Igbo.

3. Yung L
Christopher Omenye popular known as Yung L aka Mr Marley, the last of five children, was born and raised in Jos, Plateau state. His parents, both originally from Onitsha, migrated to Jos after his birth.
In less five years, the budding artiste has been able to carve a niche for himself in the Nigerian music industry with collaborations with industry heavy weights like Wizkid, Eldee, MI, Ice Prince and lots more.

2. Stormrex
Yvonne Akuabata Ogbuogu Aka STORMREX is an amazing songstress that hails from Enugu state Nigeria.
That the group, Desperate Chicks is officially disbanded is no longer news. However, a member of the defunct group, Stormrex is leaving no stone unturned at dishing out delicacies to her numerous fans.
Signed on Phyno’s record label “Penthauz”, Stormrex has been regarded as the Queen of new school Igbo music by her fans.

1. Humblesmith
With six hit songs in the space of two years which include: Chairmo, Na You, Boogati, Shoki and Love Me, Osinachi, Humblesmith is the fastest rising artiste in the music industry.
Signed to DG Records act, Humblesmith has raked in some award nominations this year, as he was nominated for in this year’s Headies rookie contest. He recently was on tour in the United Kingdom.
